These pages are dedicated to my thesis work in physical volcanology where (as one third of my degree) I designed and built a complete immersive visualization dome for geoscientific data. The project took place at the Leibniz-Institut für Meereswissenschaften IFM-GEOMAR during the winter 2007/2008 season.
I wanted to conduct research on whether immersive dome displays could be used in scientific work, i.e. if scientists would regard this as a useful tool. Therefore I built a 6m portable dome which is theoretically capable of producing a 1920×1920 pixel video image.
